Unleashing the Prisoner within
One night in 1990, Ed Jenkins walked into the Sacramento County Jail in Sacramento, CA.
This was his first time inside a jail. He hadn’t been arrested; he was there to visit someone
who had been. God used that experience to give him a burden for the incarcerated.
Twelve years later, he had an opportunity to spend a day in Greensville Correctional Center
with a team that was teaching a seminar. When he left that day he knew that prison ministry
was God’s desire for his life.
In 2004, God began to move on his heart and show him that it was time. In August of that year,
UP Ministries was born.
Today Brother Ed preaches, teaches, and provides personal Biblical Counseling on a regular
basis in prisons and jails throughout North Carolina and Virginia. He and his staff also send
over 4000 copies of his newsletter UP-Lifted and Bible studies into over 50 prisons in 8
states.
